Since I retired from my profession as a General Dental Practitioner I have been fortunate enough to travel the World extensively, often in the company of Arthur Benbow. Nepal however is the country which has established itself closest to my heart on account of it`s cheerful, friendly people and it`s varied and spectacular scenery. It is however one of the poorest countries in the World with a very young population. The need for educational facilties far outstrips the ability of the government to provide and many children in the more remote rural areas suffer schools without running water or toilets, and lack basic school equipment. Nevertheless the teaching staff are dedicated and attempt to teach a modern curriculum with often minimal facilities. Clearly there is a need to help these poor people, who are nevertheless keen to help themselves. I have been happy to accept the post of President of `Kids at School in Nepal` because here is a charity that can really make a difference. Your support is much appreciated.

I am a School Counsellor in Wales, UK and have an extensive experience in working with children and young people including teaching, coaching and most recently counselling. My work with this age group is very precious to me and I feel I have a lot to give but most importantly I am driven to make my contribution to Life by following my dreams.
Like Whitney Houston, “I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way…” which sums up the reason why I have got involved with Kids at School in Nepal through Arthur Benbow, my adopted British dad. Thanks to him I was blessed with the opportunity to visit Nepal in 2011 and experience for myself the conditions Nepalese people live and are still able to shine from within. I was lost for words to express how it meant for me to share their sincere happiness and joy. To see people ‘bouncing around greeting you Namaste – which means the God within me acknowledges the God within you – has simply been the most enriching experience I have ever had. Thank you Arthur!

Arthur Benbow is known locally as the Globe Trotting Pensioner and over the past 10 years has traveled much of the world. much of it on a bicycle see. (www.arthursmemoirs.co.uk)
Since becoming a widower in 1993 Arthur has supported and raised funds for many UK Charities including the British Heart
Foundation, Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice, and the NSPCC.
It was his 2003 visit to Nepal one of the World’s smallest and poorest countries which made him aware of the urgent need to provide an adequate education to the younger generation of this depressed but friendly country. Arthur along with three very good friends have now decided to create (as joint trustees) under the auspices of the UK Charity Commission the ‘Friends of Splendid Valley School” thank you for taking an interest in this worthy project.

I 
first visited Nepal on a cycle tour in 2003 and fell in love with this beautiful country and it’s happy but disadvantaged people. I started to sponsor two children at Splendid Valley School and returned with Arthur in 2007 for the inauguration of the new school buildings when I was able to meet the children and their families which was very special for me. On my retirement from work in July 2011 I was pleased to be invited to be a trustee for Kids at School in Nepal and have since been instrumental in the production of our first Newsletter. I am looking forward to my third visit to Nepal in November 2011 when we hope to visit the schools in the remote area of Phulkharka.
Gopal Adhekari
The Trustees are pleased to welcome Gopal Adhekari who was born and educated in the village of Phulkhara Nepal where we are currently supporting education. Gopal came to the UK in 2003 as a student and is currently living in Liverpool where he is working as a chef. We anticipate his contacts and knowledge of his home region will help our long term plans for kids at school in and near Phulkarka

The Trustees are pleased to welcome Mr. Mahesh Adhikari born in – Lamjung, Pokhara, Nepal. Education : Bachelor in commerce from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Further Degree : Advance Diploma in IT from City and Guild 2001-2003, London. Worked in International INGO (Save the Children US 1994-1999) as Program Support Coordinator. Lives in United Kingdom Peterborough since September 1999. Charity Organisation : President- Peterborough Nepalese Society (2010 to date)
Garath Barratt
I am a teacher currently working in Carlisle in the Richard Rose Central Academy in the PE department and as a support for leaders in other departments. I have been fortunate to travel with my work and have spent many years in Asia in particular. Nepal has always been on my hit list but I haven’t managed it yet –one day! I have become involved with this great charity after meeting Arthur and the other trustees following our attempts to send our pupils to Nepal in 2013 and we hope to create new international links with kids at school in Nepal. I look forward to supporting Arthur and the other trustees in their efforts to improve the quality and standards of education in the schools in Nepal.
On behalf of our Trustees it was agreed in November 2011, that having been our Founder Chairman and donor/ supporter since we became a registered Charity we should now invite Mr John Ambler to become our first President.
At the same time we agreed that there was no better person to take the post of Vice President than Mr Jyoti Adhikari who has kindly given us his current business and past positions in Nepal. It was December 2003 that some of us first met Jyoti. The fact that we have now dealt with Jyoti and Eco Trek in over 8 years, for trekking, accommodation, and advice on the needs for kids at school in Nepal speaks for itself. The Trustees are delighted both Gentlemen accepted our invitation and we look to them for advice and guidance in the future.
